Day 02: In Kochi
Morning after breakfast, proceed for full day city tour of Kochi. Visit Mattancherry Palace built by Portuguese in 1557 and presented to the Cochin Raja [King] Verra Kerala Varma as a gesture of goodwill. The Dutch substantially renovated it after 1663 and hence it is also called the Dutch Palace. Later visit St. Francis Church, India’s oldest European-built church. Vasco de Gama the first European to reach India by sailing around Africa died in Cochin 1524 and was buried here for 14 years before his remains were transferred to Lisbon in Portugal. His tombstone still stands at the original site. The Jewish Synagogue was constructed in 1568; this is the oldest synagogue in the region. Also visit the Chinese Fishing Nets, showing the traditional methods of sea fishing and the spice markets, a rich-trading center in medieval times.
Evening enjoy the Kathakali Dance Show, incorporating elements of yoga and mythology. It is an unique dance which has a 2000 years old history with more than 100 different ‘mudras’ or gesture depicting deities, demon, heroes, heroines and king – each based on episode from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, the two epic Indian myths. Day 03: Drive Cochin – Munnar [Approx.drive 4 hours] Morning after breakfast, drive to Munnar, one of the most popular hill stations in India, situated at the confluence of three mountain streams and located at 1600 Mts above sea level. Arrive and check in at the hotel. Rest of the day will be free to explore the place on your own. Stay Overnight at the Hotel. (Breakfast)
Day 04: Munnar Morning after breakfast proceeds for half a day visit of Munnar. Visit Tea plantations/factory. Kerala was known for its spices and traders traveled here to trade and to gain control over this rich land. It is believed that the spice trade dates back to three thousand years. Pepper still remains the king of Kerala’s spices, and the State also rich in cardamom, cinnamon,nutmeg, ginger and turmeric. As in the past, the State continues to be the spice capital of the world. Over twelve varieties, including coffee, tea and nutmeg are cultivated in Munnar and its neighboring villages. Stay Overnight at the Hotel. (Breakfast)
Day 05: Munnar – Periyar [Approx. drive 3½ hours] Morning after breakfast, drive to Periyar. Arrive and check in at the hotel. Afternoon visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, which occupies 777 square kilometers of the Cardamom Hills region and centers around a vast artificial lake, created by the British in 1895 to supply water. It is very rare to spot a tiger or leopard but one can see wild Elephants, sambar, wild pigs, gaur and over 260 species of birds. In evening enjoy Boat ride in Lake. Stay Overnight at the Hotel. Day 06: Preiyar – Kumarakom [Approx. drive 3½ hours] Morning enjoy nature walk in the Sanctuary. Later drive for Kumarakom andembark the overnight houseboat to enjoy the backwaters of Kerala. Houseboats of Kerala are a unique way to experience the beauty of kaleidoscopic Kerala. Transportation of men and material using houseboats of Kerala is nothing new. The houseboats glide on the backwaters of Kerala, with a panoramic view passing by. Enjoy the freshly prepared seafood prepared on board. In the Evening, witness sunset through coconut palms. Enjoy dinner under million stars. Day 07: Alleppey – Kochi [Approx. drive 1½ hours] Morning, after breakfast on board disembark the houseboat at Alleppey and depart for Kochi Airport to board the flight for onward destination. Upon arrival in Cochin you will be assisted for your departure flight to onward destination.
